Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of Zagreb:

The activity of FAMENA researchers is focused on the implementation of numerical calculations in the field of strength, stability, fatigue of materials and structures, fracture mechanics, material modeling, vibration of mechanical systems and machine dynamics, as well as the development of new algorithms and methods for these calculations. The algorithms developed so far have been implemented in the industry within several projects with Croatian and international companies.

On the ZaCjel project, FAMENA carries out activities related to experimental testing of materials, with the aim of understanding fatigue behavior, but also researching the possibility of applying the dynamic response method for detection, identification (localization) and assessment of damage size. In addition to numerical modeling, FAMENA also covers signal processing and optimization. As part of the ZaCjel project, the capacities of FAMENA were strengthened by hiring two young researchers and procuring equipment for experimental research and numerical modeling:

  • High frequency pulsator for dynamic testing of materials at frequencies higher than 200 Hz
  • Smart system for monitoring the condition of structures in laboratory conditions with the possibility of active and passive collection of information that allows global monitoring of structures for impact detection, or local monitoring for the detection of minor damage
  • Vibration measuring equipment for mechanical systems, including: multi-channel analyzer, associated sensors, impact hammer and software package for storage and analysis of measured data
  • Computer hardware and software.
